The Award-Winning Companies of Taiwan Excellent PV Embrace a Bright Future through High Quality

       In order to improve the quality and competitiveness of Taiwan photovoltaic (PV) products and encourage companies to focus on raising value, Bureau of Energy, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (BOE/MOEA) has held the Excellent PV Product Assessment Program (Taiwan Excellent PV Award) since 2013 to select and present awards to the safest, efficient, and reliable PV products. The PV product assessment items are divided into two major categories: PV modules and solar cells. A total of 8 companies including TSEC Corporation, AU Optronics, GINTUNG Energy Corp., WINAICO, Perfect Source Technology Corp., Solartech Energy Corp., Tynsolar Corporation and Neo Solar Power Corporation won awards in the module category and a total of 5 companies including Big Sun Energy Technology Incorporation, TSEC Corporation, Mosel Vitelic INC., Solartech Energy Corp. and Neo Solar Power Corporation were granted awards in the solar cell category.

 

       According to the BOE/MOEA, Taiwan PV industry is facing both price and trade competition. As a result, the industry needs to adopt competitive strategies like product differentiation and market segmentation in order to create blue ocean markets. In addition to maintaining a high level of capacity utilization, raising prices, increasing product value and maximizing profitability must also be the high priority for Taiwan PV industry development. Therefore, strict international testing standards have been adopted for the Taiwan Excellent PV Award assessment. Products which pass the strict review process and product testing are granted awards to recognize this achievement. The quality and specifications of these award-winning products meet and even surpass the strict requirements of European, American, Australian and Japan PV markets.

 

       The Taiwan Excellent PV Awards are based on the latest international IEC photovoltaic standards. For PV module category products, in addition to 13 safety qualification test items and 18 performance test items, the efficiency requirements were raised (monocrystalline ³ 16.5 %, polycrystalline ³ 16 %) and salt mist corrosion testing for island climate, dynamic mechanical loading testing and potential induced degradation testing were added to the reliability testing items. For the solar cell test items, in addition to solar cell efficiency (monocrystalline ³ 19.2 %; polycrystalline ³ 17.6 %), power degradation testing was also added. Only products which pass all of the test items and maintain maximum power at 95 % of pre-testing levels (see attachment) can complete the assessment.

 

   Through this assessment program, the BOE/MOEA aims to encourage the industry to adopt tough standards which can achieve the synergy of simultaneous improvement of technology and quality, enhance industry image and boost consumer trust to spur on PV industry development in Taiwan. By holding this Excellent PV Product Assessment Program, the industry is given further incentive to manufacture higher quality products.
